Kanye West – For Every Action

moonmanmtvEveryone wants to know what I think about the Kanye West incident. I’ll try to give you the reader’s digest version, but you know how I am. LOL!

First let’s recap, because I’m savvy enough to know there are a few people who aren’t into hip-hop or VMA award shows.

Taylor Swift, a country singer, who by the way was the biggest selling artist of 2008 in America with combined sales of more than four million albums, received the Moonman award for best female video. Kanye intercepted her acceptance speech by grabbing the microphone and saying, “Beyonce had the best video in the world.” He then gave the microphone back to a humiliated but composed Taylor Swift. The camera man meanwhile pans over to Beyonce who is sitting in the first row visibly APPAULED. “O.M.G.” was what her lips mimicked. I, on the other hand was cussing at the TV screen “WTF Kanye!”

CLASS IS JUST CLASS

BeyonceIn a classy turn of events, Beyonce received the evenings highest honor, Video of the Year for her mega-hit “All the Single Ladies.” She made a very small acceptance speech, recalling her first Video award with Destiny’s Child and how excited she was and she then asked Taylor Swift to come back to the stage and have her moment. It was a beautiful thing!

DAMAGE CONTROL

I watched Jay Leno’s debut in his new 10 p.m. time slot. It just so happened that Jay-Z, Rhianna and Kanye West were the musical guests. Jay makes an announcement that before they performed Kanye wanted to come out and talk. I thought, “Hmmmm, I wonder what he wants to talk about?” I’m joking okay! Kanye came out, distraught, ashamed, and Jay Leno turned into Oprah Winfrey. “So Kanye-how’s your day going?” He then asked the question that was foremost on my mind, “What would your Mother have thought of what you did? What would your Mother have said to you?” Kanye paused and tried to hold back the tears. He then mumbled something about not grieving and just making it all about the music and that he needed to take some time out.

FOR EVERY ACTION – THERE’S A REACTION

Kanye West was wrong! We know he was wrong. He knows he was wrong. This is not the first time we’ve seen, or rather, heard Kanye become vocal. We remember Hurricane Katrina. He said George Bush doesn’t like Black people and Pepsi didn’t pull his ads. I didn’t hear it, but I read that he has been vocal at other award shows.

Is all this about Kanye being a loose canon, or perhaps something deeper? Kanye Westkanye_west has NOT dealt with the death of his mother. Grief is a tricky thing, and I speak from bonified experience. We all handle grief in different ways. Kanye lost his mother suddenly. He threw himself into his music. He went on tour. He wrote more songs. I believe he’s done everything except deal with his grief. It’s hard to feel sympathy for anyone who is known to be so vocal on so many issues. I believe he is now dealing with the universal principle that says, For every action- there’s a reaction. Kanye’s grief has caught up to him and while it won’t cost him a decline in record sales, he does have to deal with the public humiliation. Like everything celebrity, it will blow over.

My heart goes out to Janet Jackson and her family. Kanye claims that Michael has been such a big influence on his life, but he ruined Michael’s tribute because for the past two days we’ve talked about nothing but Kanye.

Taylor Swift has accepted his apology.

He’s made the decision to take time off from music and get himself together. No one is immune from the trials and tribulations of life. Not even Kanye West.

  • P: I think you, me and every other blogger in the world wrote about one or all of the W’s this week, Wilson, Williams and West. But Kanye had his little apology and justification (grief) all worked out, then Jay asked him ‘the question’ and Kanye had to finally really FEEL something. Of the 3 W’s, Kanye had to pay the highest price for his infrac tion. I hope you will swing by the blog this week. ThatTeowonna.com

  • Kanye West has issues with alcohol!!! Yes this may be in direct correlation to him not greiving the loss of his mother but Kanye needs to check into an AA program.

I watched the Leno show and he said,

“After this, I need to just take some time off and analyze how I’m going to make it through the rest of this life, how I’m going to improve, because I am a celebrity and that’s just something I’m going to have to deal with. It was rude, period”

It was more then rude Kanye; you looked like a damn fool.

  • Kanye West will always have a big mouth.

  • Just sad!

  • It might blow over but I never looked at it from a grieving perspective. That’s interesting and probable.
